Terms of service

1. Who you are dealing with

Velo is made and provided by aaltun, a sole proprietorship owned by Abdullah Altun, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 42110730. Full details are at the bottom of this page. Below, "we" means aaltun and "you" means you as a user.

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply to the Velo app for macOS, its online services and the Velo subscription. They apply from the moment you install or use the app, including while you are not paying anything.

aaltun also provides services to business clients under separate terms. Those do not apply to Velo. For Velo, only this page applies.

3. Who you buy from

Payment runs through Polar, acting as merchant of record. Polar handles the sale, issues the invoice and remits VAT in your country, so Polar's terms also apply to the payment transaction. The app itself and the service you use are covered by the terms on this page.

4. Trying it for free

You can try Velo without an account and without payment details. That free version has a usage limit and exists so you can find out whether the app suits you. It comes with no guarantees: we may change the limit or discontinue the free version.

5. The subscription

• Velo costs €9 per month or €72 per year. All prices include VAT.
• Every subscription starts with a 7-day trial. Cancel within that period and nothing is charged.
• After the trial the subscription renews automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel.
• You can cancel at any time, with no notice period. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
• Cancel from your customer portal at Polar, through the link in your confirmation email, or by emailing info@aaltun.nl.

6. What you may do with the app

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Velo for the duration of your subscription. You may use it on your own Macs, as much as you need.

What you may not do:

• Share, resell or rent out your account or licence.
• Clone or decompile the app, or work around its protections.
• Use the service in an automated way, such as pushing audio files through transcription in bulk. Velo is meant for dictation, not as a transcription API.

If your usage is structurally and demonstrably outside normal dictation, we may contact you and, as a last resort, limit access. We never do that without warning you first.

7. What you are responsible for

You decide what you dictate. Make sure you have the rights to what you say and that you are not sending data you are not allowed to share. For work involving special categories of personal data, or medical or legal files, judge for yourself whether cloud processing fits your own obligations.

8. Availability

Velo works over the internet and relies on third-party services for speech recognition, text cleanup and account management. We do our best to keep the service up, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. Maintenance, supplier outages and macOS updates can all cause interruptions.

If the service is down for more than a full week because of something on our side, you get a proportional refund on request.

9. Refunds

If you are not happy, you get your money back under our refund policy, which also explains your statutory 14-day withdrawal right.

10. Liability

Velo is a tool: the text it produces can contain errors and you remain responsible for what you do with it. Check anything important before you send it.

Our liability is limited to the amount you paid for Velo in the twelve months before the damage occurred. We are not liable for consequential damage, lost profit or data loss. These limits do not apply in cases of intent or wilful recklessness, nor where mandatory consumer law says otherwise.

11. Changes

We may change these terms and the price. Price changes are announced by email at least thirty days in advance and only take effect at your next renewal. If you disagree, you can cancel before that date. Nothing you already paid changes retroactively.

12. Ending the agreement

You can stop whenever you want. We may end the subscription if you breach these terms, or if we discontinue Velo. If we stop, we announce it at least thirty days in advance and refund the remaining period pro rata.

13. Law and disputes

Dutch law applies to these terms. If we cannot resolve a dispute together, it goes to the competent court in the Midden-Nederland district. As a consumer you may also bring it before the court where you live, and you can use the European ODR platform.
